IT took less than an hour to write but has become one of the most famous songs ever to have come out of Scotland.
With its catchy chorus and simple lyrics, I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) is a singalong pop classic.
Now the song - penned by one half of The Proclaimers, Craig Reid, is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
The tune was written as a love song for Craig’s then-girlfriend, Petra, who is now his wife.
He says: “It’s one of the liveliest love letters of them all. It’s all about love, it’s all about life, it’s two voices as one, as brothers, as twins.”
DOCTOR Who David Tennant, who first went to see The Proclaimers at Barrowland in Glasgow, said: “They write incredible songs that have been the soundtrack to my life for the last 20 years.
KENNY McCOLL, who set up the Tartan Army in New York, said: “The Proclaimers write romantic songs, which is unusual for Scotland.
“But if there is one thing we are romantic about, it’s our football.
“We travel around the world and I’ve probably heard this song more than any other in the history of recorded music.”
