To see concerts once you’re there, you have to file past seeming miles of penny slots, roulette and 21 tables and clouds of cigarette smoke.
Their obvious chemistry rocked out “Love Is a Battlefield,” but they also took it down on a beauty of a duet called “Every Time I Fall Back.” Then they’ll do something like their “raved-up love song,” “River of Love,” to demonstrate how they can straddle both hard and soft.
And with this audience, she needed it, as the volume in this hangarlike space was at times deafening with its love for her. And she gave back, establishing early on an easy rapport.
We belted, in unison: “We are young, heartache to heartache we stand/ No promises, no demands/ Love is a battlefield/ We are strong, no one can tell us were wrong/ Searchin’ our hearts for so long, both of us knowing/ Love is a battlefield.”
“This next song I’ve been singing for longer than I want to talk about. I usually complain about it, but tonight we’re just gonna play the damn thing,” Benatar said.
